How to delete old tweets by date

Your 2015 takes aren't necessarily what you want a new employer or client to read. The good news: you don't have to wipe everything — you can delete a date range and keep who you are today.

Why delete only the old stuff?

• Opinions and jokes that no longer represent you.
• Job applications and press coverage: people do read your history.
• You want to keep your recent posts, your followers and your handle.

Step one: find old tweets with advanced search

Scrolling your profile back several years is painful. Use X's search operators instead:

from:yourhandle until:2020-01-01

That shows your tweets posted before 1 January 2020. For a window:

from:yourhandle since:2016-01-01 until:2017-01-01

Switch to the Latest tab to see them in order. From there you can review and delete them by hand (⋯ → Delete).

The fast way: delete a date range

X Cleaner has a date range option:

1. Open your profile on x.com from a computer.
2. Click the extension icon → Tweets tab.
3. Turn on “Only delete within a date range”.
4. Set From and To — both days are included.
5. Press “Start deleting tweets”.

Leave one field empty to leave that side open. Example: leave “From” empty and set “To” to 31 Dec 2019, and everything up to the end of 2019 goes, while 2020 onwards stays.

Tweets whose date can't be read are never deleted — safety first.

Tips before you run it

• Download your archive first (how to) — it's the only copy you'll have.
• Start with a single year to confirm the result, then widen the range.
• To remove only old replies, combine the date range with the “Replies only” filter.
