How to download your X archive

Before deleting anything, take a copy. Your X archive saves your tweets, messages and media in one file on your own computer, and you can browse it any time.

What's in the archive?

• Every tweet and reply, with dates.
• Photos and videos you posted.
• Direct messages.
• Likes, followers and following lists, and your account details.

Requesting it

1. Open Settings and privacy → Your account.
2. Choose Download an archive of your data.
3. Enter your password, then the verification code sent to your email or phone.
4. Press Request archive.

X prepares it in the background, which usually takes 24 hours or more — sometimes several days for large accounts. You get a notification when it's ready; come back to the same screen and press Download.

Menu names shift slightly between app versions, but the path stays the same.

Opening it

1. The archive is a ZIP file — unzip it.
2. Open Your archive.html in any browser.
3. You get an interface to browse and search your tweets and messages.

Keep it somewhere safe: it contains your private messages and account details. Don't upload it to sites you don't trust.

Once it's ready

Now you can delete with a copy in hand:

• Delete all your tweets at once
• Delete only old tweets
• Delete your DMs
